A commission was carried out by Loughborough University to research how the safety methods employed during the construction of the Olympic village were translated successfully to the builds workforce of around 40,000 personnel and the multiple contractors working on the scheme. The findings of the research have now been published by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)

The techniques used were often low-cost and had cross-company impact, showing that a good health and safety record isn’t out of any companies grasp. “Last year there were 50 fatalities in 2298 reported major injuries in this sector; so IOSH would strongly encouraged managers of small medium and multi-contractor projects to take a good look at how these results were achieved and implement some of these principles into their own health and safety strategies”
